Chocolate & Wine: Love at First Pairing

Chocolate and wine are arguably two of life’s greatest pleasures. Alone they are exceptional; together phenomenal. So why not double up on this decadent duo with a JUSTIN wine and chocolate do-it-yourself at-home pairing?

Before you start perusing for wine and chocolate, here are a few tips to keep in mind. Check the tasting notes to get an idea of the wine’s flavors. The goal of a great wine pairing is to balance the tastes (sweet, sour, bitter, salty) in the chocolate and wine, so the subtle flavors can beautifully emerge.

Opt for similar style and weight. Try to match lighter, more elegant flavored chocolates with lighter-bodied wines. Likewise, the stronger the chocolate, the more full-bodied the wine.

For example, dark chocolate pairs well with tannin driven wines like a Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah. Milk chocolate pairs nicely with a full-bodied Merlot. White chocolate pairs beautifully with white wines like a Chardonnay or a Sauvignon Blanc. The creaminess from the white chocolate complements and cuts the acidity in white wines. That said, white chocolate also pairs nicely with a sweeter dessert wine like Sunny’s Block.

Enjoy your JUSTIN and chocolate pairing. Remember, there are no wrong combinations, as everyone’s taste buds are slightly different. We think you’ll agree, chocolate and JUSTIN are a match made in heaven.
