We planted our first vineyard back in 1981 with a mission to make world-class Bordeaux-style blends. Since then, we’ve expanded both our knowledge of viticulture in this unique region as well as our acreage.
Rich in fossilized limestone from eons of marine deposits, JUSTIN’s soil is ideally suited to creating big, Bordeaux-style reds. The limestone “stresses” the vines, producing grapes that fully express their varietal character.
Paso Robles’ distinctive microclimate offers the widest day-night temperature swings of any grape-growing region in California. The hot days allow the grapes to develop intense flavor, while the cool nights create great structure and balance.
Our Founder’s Vineyard
This 160 acre property with soil types similar to that of Bordeaux, France was the perfect location for Justin Baldwin to begin developing our award winning Bordeaux-style blends.
Our Vineyard off Adelaida Road
Set in one of the highest points in the Paso Robles AVA near the Pacific, the extreme temperature swings of this vineyard produce grapes rich in flavor and structure resulting in incredible Bordeaux-style wines.
Our Vineyard off Creston Road
This vineyard, rich in sandstone and limestone, is located in the Templeton Gap, an area of Paso Robles that benefits from cool Pacific Ocean breezes. The high and low temperate produces complex and beautiful wines.
Our DeBro Vineyard
Nestled next to our Estate Vineyard, DeBro has especially steep slopes and varied soil types, making it the perfect location to produce the big Bordeaux-style red varieties in some of JUSTIN’s finest wines.
OUR WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY
At JUSTIN®, we combine traditional Old World methods—like hand-harvesting and small-barrel aging in French oak—with New World technology. For example: the “Air Knife,” an ingenious process invented by our winemakers, boosts grape quality and efficiency.
Once the grapes are harvested, our winemakers—some of the best in the business—gather to sort, select, age, taste, blend and decide what goes into every bottle.
Director of Production & Winemaking
For over 30 years, Fred Holloway has helped create some of the most honored wines in California. In the 1990s, he helped produce the award-winning Artisan Series for the Jess Jackson Family. That led to other opportunities, and a bevy of high-scoring wines. Fred joined JUSTIN in 2003, where his knowledge and commitment make him an exceptional part of the JUSTIN team.
After creating award-winning wine in Napa Valley for 13 vintages, Scott Shirley recently took on the challenge of an entirely new appellation: Paso Robles. He combines a scientific background with an artistic approach, and greets each harvest like a painter facing a blank canvas, open to the possibilities.
