TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Dense, opaque black core lightening at the rim to a lighter purple ruby hue. The tears are thick and show considerable color.
Aroma: Fragrant with ripe blueberry, cherry and currant fruit perfumed with floral aromas of violet and lilac, underlain with graphite, a little black olive, sweet barrel spice including clove, dark chocolate and smoky cedar.
Palate: Very full on the palate with blackberry, ripe cherry, blueberry pie fruit and purple flowers right off. Surprisingly fresh into the mid-palate as stony, inky textural elements appear mixed with dark chocolate. The finish is long and chewy with alternating fruit, exotic spice and rocky textures. The 2014 Petit Verdot is a parade of flavors that walks the tightrope between fruit density and impressive structural texture with unusual grace. Worth trying on its own as a way to experience what this variety has to offer, it would pair best with hearty meat dishes like pot roast, or slow simmered short ribs.
